OUR INSTITUTION AT A GLANCE

The Government College of Pharmacy, Rohru was established in the year 2005 at Rohru, Distt. Shimla. This college offers four year B.Pharmacy programme since its inception. It is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E.), New Delhi and Pharmacy Council of India (P.C.I.), New Delhi and is affiliated to H.P. Technical University (H.P.T.U.), Hamirpur. This college is first Pharmacy College in the state of Himachal Pradesh which is established in order to impart Technical Education in the area of Pharmacy to aspirants especially those who belong to the remote rural areas keeping in view the immense employment scope in various sectors like academics, administration, corporate and Pharmaceutical Industries. The current strength of students in the college is about 168 with asanctioned intake of 40 students. The institute is experiencing a fast academic growth and imparts quality based Pharmacy Education. The success of the college was amply reflected by the results and excellent placement record of our students. INFRASTRUCTURE:

Administrative area

Administrative area at the ground floor of the institute is designed for easy accessing of students and outside persons with enough working space. Separate sections has been given as per the functioning such as Principal cabin, cabins for every faculty, reception area, waiting area, inquiry section, accounts, store, seminar hall and finance section.

LABORATORY FACILITIES

The college is equipped with ultramodern infrastructure and facilities such as well-equipped laboratories, central instrumentation room, machine room, museum, library, computer lab etc. for enriching the students with the latest developments in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences as per norms, curriculum and requirement of the courses. Latest and modern technologies including F.T.I.R., H.P.L.C., rotary tablet machine, rotary evaporator, brookfield viscometer, laminar air flow, U.V.-visible spectrophotometer, microtome, S.D.S. page etc. are the sophisticated instruments of different laboratories. All the equipments in the laboratories are maintained as per P.C.I. and A.I.C.T.E. guidelines. Every six months, the lab attendants and staff conducts an audit of chemicals. All the safety measures have been put in place in case of emergencies.

INSTRUMENTATION ROOM

The institution has highly sophisticated laboratories, well-equipped machine rooms, which satisfies the practical need of the students. Institute houses state-of-art sophisticated instrument laboratory equipped with modern instruments like F.T.I.R., H.P.L.C., U.V.-visible spectrophotometer etc. This laboratory provides analytical support and intellectual input to in-house projects of the institute.

Academic block

The academic block of GCP, Rohru consist of a four storeyed building with a basement. The academic block of the Pharmacy college has fully developed infrastructure representing spacious lecture hall, tutorial rooms, library, computer lab, N.S.S. room, girls and boys common room, machine room, central instrumentation facility, house-keeping facility and other Pharmaceutical Laboratories.

LIBRARY FACILITY

GCP, Rohru has an excellent library and information centre, one of the central support services of the institution which acts as a primary source for information seekers. The library has been carefully designed to maximise natural lighting to the users and provide a comfortable seating and reading environment. The library is well equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of CD-ROM's, books, national and international journals, back volumes of journals, thesis, WHO publications-journals, E-books and E-journals. There are over 6000 volumes of books belonging to various core subjects of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

HOSTEL FACILITY

GCP, Rohru owns a neat, clean and excellent central hostel facility that can accommodate 90 girl students. Each student is provided with a single bed, a chair, a table and suitable locker facility on twin sharing basis. Hostel has a spacious dining hall where healthy and delicious meals are served at reasonable rates. A separate television/common room for the students and separate visitor’s room are also available where the students can meet their visitors/wards.

SMART CLASSROOM

GCP, Rohru has well equipped independent smart classroom. The smart classroom helps to renovate the traditional education system into modernized one. It provides eminence education to students through better concept formation, concept elaboration, improvement in reading skills and academic attainment.

COMPUTER FACILITIES

More than twenty computers of latest configuration with facility of internet are available in the college for imparting the latest technological know-how to the students. The computer lab is provided to the students for project work, power point presentations and surfing to keep them updated to face the competitive world. We are focusing to install the Wi-Fi facility in the campus.

Animal House

The institution is looking forward to establish animal house facility in campus to provide animals for bio-medical research or testing which has specific aim to advance practical aspects of new drug discovery.

Machine Room

The machine room houses sophisticated machinery necessary for the formulations and development of tablets, capsules and other dosage forms such as ball mill, hammer mill, cutter mill, mixer and shakers, B.O.D. incubator, tray dryer, disintegration apparatus, dissolution test apparatus, vacuum pumps, hot air ovens, autoclave, lyophilizer etc.

AUDITORIUM

Auditorium hall is available on second floor of the administrative block. It is having adequate seating arrangement, LCD projector and motorized projector screen, audio-visual system with power backup facilities for organizing seminars, workshops, conferences, guest lectures and other events.

HERBAL GARDEN

Institutional herbal garden comprises of more than 50 medicinal plants including herbs, shrubs and trees cultivated and maintained by the Department of Pharmacognosy.

GUEST HOUSE FACILITY

The college has guest-house with well-furnished rooms, attached bathroom-cum toilets with each suit. The rooms are available for college guest, parents and for students when they come in off campus hours. A minimum suitable charge has been taken for logging in these rooms.

COLLEGE BUS

College provides transportation facility for the students. Although, the college is situated close to the city and there is frequent HRTC bus service facility.

MEDICAL FACILITY

The college has acute health care services with first- aid facility dedicated especially for students and faculty.
